Kings Island, August 2021: My favorite of the 9 parks we visited on this trip?

Maybe so! Kings Island is a theme park I've wanted to visit for a long time, yet we never really made the effort. I'm glad we did this time. 10 roller coasters on this stop, all new to us (of course, since it was our first visit). The Beast, Banshee, Mystic Timbers, Diamondback, Orion, Racer - so many great rides. Oh and we skipped the Vekoma inverted boomerang and I wish we had skipped Flight of Fear, which is as bad as remember it being at Kings Dominion. In any case, enjoy this park tour from August 2021! I'm already planning a return trip to Kings Island and the greater Cincinnati, OH area.

Six Flags Great Adventure, August 16, 2021: cheetahs and fountains and coasters...oh my!

As we entered week 2 of our summer 2021 roller coaster trip, we visited Six Flags Great Adventure. Our SFGA stop was on Monday, August 16th, 2021. SFGA has a large assortment of roller coasters, and we were anticipating some great rides. Unfortunately, 2 of of the marquee roller coasters, El Toro and Jersey Devil, were closed when we visited. For more info on the El Toro closure, check out El Toro Ryan's video here.

Fun time on the whole, and I'm glad we visited. But it didn't reach the levels of Kings Island or Busch Gardens Williamsburg for me. Enjoy!

Magic Mountain Mondays #20: Roaring Rapids signage

Now that we’re on signage and sponsors, let’s walk over to Roaring Rapids. Once again, I’m confused by the sponsor choice. MasterCard plus rapids ride equals…?

In August of 1995, I took a bunch of photos (on film no less) at Six Flags Magic Mountain using an inexpensive camera. I was working as an Operations supervisor at the time, and the purpose of the project was to create a slide show for an employee appreciation party for our Operations staff. I’ve carted these slides around for over 25 years and I finally had them digitally transferred this year. About 2/3s of them aren’t available for posting because they are crew pictures and I have no way to request permission to post them. But I do have 50+ available that are just various shots of the park. Enjoy this time capsule from August 1995.

Magic Mountain Mondays #19: Colossus 2

Let’s stay on Colossus, but stray over to signage. Magic Mountain was never sponsor-adverse (who can forget the super sticky days of New York Seltzer sponsoring Colossus?), but some of the sponsor choices were…odd? Stridex? Because the rides are mostly run by pimple-faced teens? Sure, whatever.
